The nights have slowly been getting longer (Thank God) and this nutty year is coming to an end. Now that you are starting to get the hang of things as a BrandNewMom, why not set some personal goals for 2015?
Well, there are only a handful of hours left of what has been a whirlwind of a year! I vaguely remember saying to myself this time last year that I wasn’t going to make any specific New Years resolutions. There was rather more of a reeling desperation to once again get a good nights sleep and sense of normality in mine and my husbands’ lives. You see, my little boy was born Dec 11, 2014 and since then, we have only just begun to get more than 3 consecutive hours sleep. But I’m sure I’m preaching to the choir and all you Brandnewmom’s know what I’m talking about!
I don’t know about you but I definitely have fallen into the mama bear role and always put my little family first. Those sacrifices have often left me sporting a greasy pony tail with un-plucked eyebrows for days in my dog-fur-covered-yoga pants.
As maternity leaves may be coming to an end, and/or your baby brain fog starts to clear, we mom’s deserve a little time for ourselves and what better time than New Years to make some personal goals for 2015!
Here are 3 actionable ways to work towards achieving your New Years resolutions no matter how big or small.
1. Set Realistic Goals

I have to come to the realization that I will never be 6 feet tall and grow blond curly hair. It’s just not going to happen! But now that I don’t always have the little one in tow, I can strive to take time in the personal care department.
Its important to separate what is tangible from the impossible. Setting realistic and thus, achievable goals becomes satisfying and rewarding making the whole exercise worthwhile. If your goal initially seems attainable but you find yourself really struggling, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with checking back in and re-evaluating your progress. Trust that God has a plan for you! Sometimes it’s just a matter of compartmentalizing one big goal into several little goals in order for it to come to fruition!
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Philippians 4:13)
2. Be Deliberate
Its one thing to ponder hope-to’s or will do’s but it’s another thing to actually achieve those goals!
The only way to see the light at the end of the tunnel is to stay focused. Wake up with your goal(s) in your prayers and make an action plan to get you there. What tools are at your disposal to help you reach your goals? Finding a “mentor(s)” is a great way to stay on track! Whether you ‘follow’, ‘like’ and/or ‘Pin’ people/businesses/blogs of people who share the same vision or find a good friend or close family to motivate you, submersing yourself in the lifestyle will keep your momentum going.
“Where no counsel [is], the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors [there is] safety.” (Proverbs 11:14)

3. Be healthy mentally and spiritually
The busy-ness of having a little family has left me burnt out and often putting God last.
One of the most common New Years resolutions is to lose weight/inches. But quite often we leave out nurturing and conditioning our minds and spirits. All three go hand in hand and therefore, it makes sense to ensure time is spent being mindful of our mental and spiritual states. Some alone time with yourself and God will recharge you for another successful day!
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33)
